Last week, the Trump Administration announced a proposal that would radically alter immigration law and undermine our nation’s long-standing commitment to welcoming immigrants.
The proposal would stop many aspiring Americans from being able to become lawful permanent residents if they have used certain work-support programs or temporary safety nets that help many hard-working families continue their jobs and move out of poverty.
It could reduce the availability of healthy food for children, deny access to life-saving prenatal care, and turn people away from safe homes. Learn more about the proposal here.
The good news is this is only a proposal and has not gone into effect yet. You can voice your opposition today.
Under federal law, the government is required to read and respond to every unique comment before issuing a final rule. That’s why we need you to take action and submit your comment today. It is critically important for Nebraskans to stand together so that we can show how many people are opposed to this proposal.
Plans like this would close the door to the American Dream for many without privilege, and it’s another in a long line of harsh, anti-immigrant policies that threatens the health and well-being of hard-working families who perform essential work in our communities.
Policies like these and others proposed by the White House sow fear and uncertainty in communities across the country, and they are a rejection of values that we cherish, like family and community.
It just takes a few minutes to post a public comment against this inhumane attack on the health and well-being of countless families, communities, and children. Will you please click here and add your voice?
