Ensuring all Nebraskans are counted and represented in every community

Nebraska is the first state to release confidential information to the U.S. Census Bureau

LINCOLNThe Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) recently released it will be issuing confidential information to the U.S. Census Bureau regarding immigration status information. Nebraska Appleseed’s Legal Director, Robert McEwan, issued the following statement in response:

“The census is important in ensuring that all Nebraskans in our growing communities are represented fairly. This is another attempt from the Administration’s order to ultimately undermine the goal of the census, which is to count all residents, regardless of immigration status.

Nebraska Appleseed will continue to monitor the situation. Through a coalition effort known as Nebraska Counts, we are working with communities across Nebraska to emphasize how important is is for every Nebraskan to participate in the 2020 Census.”

  1. Please do not allow this to happen. I do not read in the presidential decree that driver’s licenses must be used. What happens to our elderly population who no longer hold a valid license or those due to illness do not hold a valid license? This information will be incomplete and useless. It will not give an accurate picture of Nebraska’s population.
