President’s budget proposal a harsh attack on Nebraska families
Drastic cuts will harm low-income families, children, seniors, Nebraskans with disabilities
LINCOLN — Today, Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Rebecca Gould issued the following statement on the President’s budget released Tuesday morning.
“This budget is a cruel and cynical vision of America that would undermine the security of every Nebraska community,” Gould said. “The budget’s proposed cuts will heap more harm onto hard-working families struggling to get out of poverty, while endangering our state’s children, seniors, and people with disabilities. Combined with the significant cuts to health care and anti-poverty programs recently enacted by the Governor, this budget continues to close the door to opportunity for tens of thousands of Nebraska families, which sets back our entire state.
“A budget is more than a series of dollar amounts, it spells out our country’s priorities. By slashing programs that have proven to help our most-vulnerable people meet their basic needs in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthy and a divisive border wall that separates loved ones, this budget does not live up to American values. It turns our country’s back on those with the least, to give even more to those who have the most. This budget would create massive suffering for tens of thousands of Nebraska families who are already struggling. We urge our members of Congress to reject it.”
