We need you to stand up TONIGHT for young immigrant Nebraskans!
Wednesday night, the Governor vetoed LB 623 — the bill that would allow young immigrant Nebraskans known as “DREAMers” to apply for driver’s licenses — despite the bill being passed with overwhelming 34-9 support by the Legislature last week.
TAKE ACTION
We need you to contact your State Senator tonight and urge them to continue supporting this common-sense bill by voting to override the Governor’s veto of LB 623!
Nebraska is the only state that denies driver’s licenses to DACA youth, young immigrants who grew up in this state and consider Nebraska their home. A driver’s license would allow them to contribute more fully to their communities by being able to drive to work and school.
We believe this is long overdue to be changed. So does a statewide chorus of business, faith, immigrant, and community leaders all across Nebraska.
Use your voice! Call or e-mail your State Senator and tell them to do the right thing for our state and for young Nebraskans who want to contribute more fully to their communities. Ask your senator to vote to override the Governor’s veto of LB 623!
Here’s a sample message:
Dear Senator,
I’m writing to ask you to please vote to override the Governor’s veto of LB 623. This bill passed with “Yes” votes from an overwhelming majority of the Legislature and with statewide support from business, faith, immigrant, and community leaders.
We have much to gain by these young Nebraskans who grew up in our state contributing their talents more fully to their home communities. We are proud to have them as part of our state, and allowing them to drive is the right choice.
I respectfully urge you to vote “Yes” to override the veto of LB 623.
Nebraska DREAMers are this final step away from being able to drive, and your voice could make the difference!
