Tomorrow, Lincolnites have the opportunity to ensure that everyone in our city can find a place to call home by voting FOR Lincoln For Fair Housing to amend Title 11 of the Lincoln Municipal Code
Right now, landlords in Lincoln can discriminate against people who would pay for housing through disability benefits, social security, veteran benefits, or housing vouchers. This practice – called source-of-income discrimination – hurts families like Letita’s, our veteran neighbors, grandparents, and Lincolnites with disabilities.
If passed, the Lincoln For Fair Housing ballot initiative will prohibit landlords and property managers in Lincoln from turning away tenants based solely on how they pay rent.
Source-of-income protections work for everyone. While Lincoln faces an affordable housing crisis, source-of-income discrimination has been banned in 22 states and 128 cities and towns in the United States. In those cities and states, the voucher failure rate has been cut in half.
Adopting source-of-income protections will immediately increase Lincolnites’ chances at safe, accessible, and affordable housing. Prohibiting landlords and property managers from turning away prospective tenants based solely on how they pay rent is the right thing to do. No one should be denied a home because of how they pay rent.
If you haven’t already, make your plan to vote!
Polls will be open on Tuesday, May 6 from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm throughout Lincoln.
- Find your polling place or confirm you are registered to vote.

Don’t forget: Nebraska has passed new laws that require every voter to show a proper form of photo I.D. These most commonly include a driver’s license or state I.D., a student I.D. from a Nebraska University, or a US passport, military, or Tribal I.D.
Together, we can make Lincoln a stronger, more welcoming community, where everyone has a place to call home. Tomorrow, vote FOR amending Title 11 of the Lincoln Municipal Code to prohibit source-of-income discrimination in our city.
