A Step in the Right Direction for Positive Immigration Laws

Longtime immigrant Nebraskans need permanent protections to continue contributing to local communities

LINCOLN – Yesterday, the Dream Act and American Promise Act passed out of the House Judiciary committee. These positive, long overdue bills provide permanent protections to Dreamers and longtime residents with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) status who are part of the fabric of communities across the country. Policy Director, Omaid Zabih, issued the following statement:

“Nebraskan Dreamers and TPS residents continue to enrich Nebraska communities, contributing their skills and talents to our state. Without action from Congress, there is no way for these Nebraskans to apply for permanent residency and citizenship in the country they have long known as home.

“It’s now time for the full House to pass these bills – without any harmful amendments – to create stability for Nebraska Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status residents, as well as for Nebraska communities, loved ones, children, and spouses.”
