Take Action – Protect minimum wage for hard-working Nebraska students

Oppose LB 599 v2Last fall, Nebraskans overwhelmingly voted to raise our state’s minimum wage to $9 per hour, but a new bill in the Legislature would strip that fair wage from hard-working young Nebraskans.

LB 599 would allow employers to pay high school student workers less than other employees, which is in direct contrast to what Nebraskans voted for last November. The bill has passed first-round debate, but there is still time to make your voice heard!

Take Action

Contact your State Senator TODAY and urge them to oppose LB 599.

Our workplace laws should not allow employers to pay student workers less than other employees because:

  • This bill will hurt many low-income families, many of whom depend on young family member’s wages to make ends meet.
  • This bill would hurt these students’ ability to save for rising college tuition.
  • It could encourage students to drop out of school just so they can make more money to help their families. We should be rewarding education and hard work, not pitting them against each other.

Nebraskans believe in treating hard-working people equally and fairly no matter their age. Take action TODAY and tell your State Senator LB 599 is an injustice to young Nebraska workers.

Your voice counts!
