At the Capitol: LB1032 Advanced from Committee

With only 11 legislative days left, senators will continue all-day debate over the next couple of weeks until we hit Day 60. Debate typically takes place from 9am-12pm and begins again at 1pm. Last week started the session’s late night schedule, which will continue through the end of session.

Last week, the Legislature’s budget vote failed, leaving just days for budget negotiations before session ends.

We were excited to see parts of ✅ LB304 (DeBoer) folded into the budget last week. LB304 would help parents afford the child care they need by maintaining the child care subsidy’s income eligibility level, which is otherwise set to decrease later this year. If LB304 doesn’t pass this year, over 2,000 families will lose access to funding for child care.

TAKE ACTION: Contact your senator today and ask them to continue to advance and support these important child care subsidies as budget negotiations continue.

Yesterday, ✅ LB1032 (DeBoer) advanced from the Judiciary Committee! This bill recognizes tribal customary adoptions in Nebraska state law, ensuring Native children can maintain their connections to their families, tribes, communities, and culture, while still finding permanency out of care.

Thank you to Senator Wendy DeBoer for introducing this bill, the Judiciary Committee members who voted to advance it, and the incredible advocates who have shared their stories and expertise so far!
