As news continues about federal use of our tax dollars for mass detainment warehouses (one with a footprint the size of two Yankees Stadiums) utterly contrary to our values, take just a minute to call Congress again in this critical moment to say NO additional money for ICE violence.
ICE violence and mass detentions and deportations by ICE make all of us less safe. Yet Congress continues to consider additional funding for ICE as part of the partial government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland Security. There is no reason a funding package needs to include additional tax dollars for ICE.
What we’re seeing now in ICE violence and the purchases of massive warehouses are a result of the unprecedented $75 billion slush fund for ICE (without any guardrails) Congress passed in last summer’s reconciliation bill.
TAKE ACTION
The partial government shutdown continues and the Senate could vote again soon. Tell Nebraska’s U.S. Senators NO to additional funding for ICE abuses and violence, and NO to more detention beds.
This massive increase in a federal agent force – with roving patrols and sweeping, indiscriminate crackdowns based on long-outdated immigration laws – is damaging local communities. Immigrant neighbors are part of the fabric of local communities and help make local communities strong. Data now shows that the vast majority of people being detained are working moms, dads, and neighbors who have no criminal record.
Nebraska’s members of Congress represent you, and they have power to control funding of these abuses – and power to move positive and productive solutions that fix long-outdated immigration laws and create stability for Nebraska families, workforce, and communities.
