While we’re focusing on property taxes at the state policy level, the conversation about the Child Tax Credit is heating up again at the federal level. Unlike the Governor’s property tax proposal, which will likely result in a negative impact on low- and middle-income Nebraskans, the expanded federal Child Tax Credit back in 2021 cut child poverty by 46%.
But since the end of the expanded Child Tax Credit, nearly 3.7 million children across the country have fallen back into poverty. Earlier this year, the House took action and passed the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, taking an important step forward to expand the Child Tax Credit. Now the Senate must get the bill across the finish line to reach more families, including 80,000 Nebraska children.
Email Senator Fischer & Senator Ricketts today and tell them to act quickly to pass the Child Tax Credit expansion because working families can’t wait!
When you email, let your U.S. Senators know how the Child Tax Credit has impacted your family or the difference it could make for Nebraskans:
An expanded Child Tax Credit that puts money into the pockets of Nebraska’s lowest income families with children every month is the best way to give relief from rising costs – including the cost of rising property taxes and rent. We can, again, slash child poverty, reduce food insecurity, and infuse local economies.
Thank you for your ongoing advocacy!
