Take Action: Reopen government, reject anti-immigrant bill

The longest government shutdown in history has caused serious harm to families, communities, and workers across the country. Services for nutrition programs, Native American health care, rental housing, and public health and safety are increasingly threatened. Hundreds of thousands of federal workers have felt the financial strain that has made paying rent, feeding their families, or going to the doctor more difficult.

Tomorrow, the Senate will vote on two competing bills to reopen the government. The first bill is a clean funding bill that will open the government through early February. The second bill is from President Trump, one that wastes billions of dollars on a border wall, guts our current asylum process to the detriment of children and families fleeing violence, virtually eliminates Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for immigrants in the future, and fails to provide meaningful, long-term relief to DACA recipients.

Please take action today by calling our U.S. Senators and your Congressman.Tell them to reject the President’s bill that would continue and expand harmful immigration policies, including funding for an unproductive border wall. Ask them to vote for a clean funding bill that would allow Congress more time to focus on positive, common-sense solutions that reflect our values as a state and country.

Urge them to vote “NO” on the President’s bill and “YES” on the clean funding bill.

Congress must support humane policies that uphold safety and dignity for asylum seekers, keep families together, and take action on long-overdue, positive legislation for Dreamer youth and their families, who contribute so much to Nebraska communities.
