Today, Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Rebecca Gould released the following statement on the effort to pass updated immigration laws to fix the outdated U.S. immigration system:
“There is broad consensus in Nebraska and across the country that now is the time to update our immigration laws,” Gould said. “This morning, President Obama reiterated that Americans all over the country from all walks of life agree that now is the time to pass an updated immigration law. Yesterday, House Speaker John Boehner said he is hopeful the House can pass an immigration bill yet this year. Just two weeks ago, 2,000 Nebraskans marched in support of the same idea, and for many months, a wide range of Nebraska perspectives – faith, business, labor, agricultural, civil rights, children and families – have been calling for updated immigration laws for Nebraska’s future.”
“The message is clear. Fixing our immigration system strengthens families, businesses, and communities, and it is long overdue,” Gould said. “We urge Nebraska’s House members to support common-sense immigration laws with a clear and attainable path to citizenship so that Nebraska families can remain united, our businesses can operate in a stable environment thereby boosting our economy, and our communities can grow stronger together.”
