Since May, Appleseed has been partnering with Heart Ministry Center and a group of Omaha women who are fighting to break the cycle of generational poverty.  A grant from the Women’s Fund of Omaha allowed us to provide these women with digital cameras to document the challenges they face on a daily basis.

The result is a moving and enlightening photo project aptly titled Valiant Voices: Portraits of Strength.

This exhibit is composed of 15 photos taken and selected by the participants and illustrates the enduring spirit of nine women with a vision for a better Nebraska.  The exhibit debuted at this month’s First Friday art walk in Benson.  The collection will be on display again at the Nebraska State Capitol October 25-30.

Please join us for the Lincoln opening on October 25 at 12 p.m. in the first floor rotunda of the Nebraska State Capitol.  Several of the photographers will be present to showcase their work and speak with senators and others to share ideas for ending poverty in Nebraska.
