We all deserve a safe, affordable, and stable place to call home – and our communities are strongest when housing is accessible to everyone regardless of their source of income.
Housing is unaffordable for 40% of Nebraska renters, forcing families to sacrifice necessities to make ends meet. Public assistance programs – such as Section 8 vouchers, Social Security, Disability, and Veterans benefits – play a critical role in filling this gap, but they can’t help when landlords refuse to rent to Nebraskans using them.
Source-of-income discrimination has been banned in Lincoln and could be expanded to protect all Nebraskans, but Senator Dover and his realtor lobby want to take these protections away.
❌ The Judiciary Committee will have a hearing on LB809 next week. Submit a comment in OPPOSITION to LB809.
Here’s how you can protect our right to housing and oppose discrimination:
When: Wednesday, February 4th, 1:30p-until the evening
Where: Nebraska State Capitol Building, Judiciary, Room 1525
- Testify with us at the Capitol
- Submit a comment online by 8:00 am CT on February 4th
- Email senators on the Judiciary Committee
- Sit with us during the hearing to show your support for fair housing
- And respond to this email if you need support!
Our homes are where we lay our heads each night and wake up each morning, but without stable housing, every aspect of our lives is turned upside-down. Nebraskans deserve protection from source-of-income discrimination – and every Nebraska community should be able to enact the protections they need.
Thank you for your continued advocacy!
