Unity Weekend

Nebraskans come from many different cultures and walks of life where hopes and values unite people in a common search for a stronger community. This is exactly what “Nebraska is Home” groups will be celebrating this weekend in Crete, Fremont, and Grand Island.

On Saturday, June 27th, “Nebraska Is Home Grand Island” will participate in the Unity Walk during the Ethic Festival to celebrate the diversity that enriches and strengthens their hometown. Walkers will meet at the downtown intersection of 2nd and Pine at 10 a.m. and “Nebraska Is Home” invites all community members to walk with them. “Nebraska is Home” has teamed up with the Grand Island Multicultural Coalition and the Grand Island/Hall County Convention and Visitors Bureau to create signs in twelve different languages that spread the “Welcome” message and compliment the positive messages found on the “Nebraska Is Home” posters and billboard.

“Nebraska Is Home Fremont” will join in celebrating the Fremont Unity Picnic on Saturday, June 28th from 3 – 6 p.m. Community members are invited to bring their favorite dishes to share and gather for games and music on “The Green” at Midland Lutheran College behind the Administration building.

Crete’s “Nebraska Is Home” group will be sponsoring their second community dinner in cooperation with Doane College and the First Congregational United Church of Christ. The dinner will be on Monday, June 29th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the church on 12th and Ivy. The group hopes to repeat the success seen at their last dinner in April which drew a crowd of over 200 people and inspired them to continue to hold community meals throughout the summer. For Crete community members, Monday’s dinner will be a welcome opportunity to make new friends and spend time with old.
