Nebraska families and children to Receive Child Care P-EBT through SNAP

Approximately $13.6 million in benefits to be provided to 27,500 SNAP-enrolled children

Lincoln, NE — On Wednesday, Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) announced it will provide Child Care Pandemic Electronic Transfer Funds (P-EBT) to children participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Nebraska families with children under six will receive these benefits to help make up for the loss of meals due to daycare or school closures from October 2020 to May 2021.

Eric Savaiano, Nebraska Appleseed’s Economic Justice Program Manager for Food and Nutrition Access, issued the following statement in response:

“The P-EBT program has continued to support Nebraska families impacted by school closures with benefits to keep food on the table. The Child Care P-EBT program further helps cover the cost of meals for when child care and schools for young children were closed.

Nebraska’s DHHS has consistently put in the time and effort needed to enact the Pandemic-EBT program. We applaud the Department’s efforts to enact this new piece of the program, which will not only support Nebraska’s economy with benefits being spent locally, but will also support kids and families as they deal with the economic fall out of the pandemic.”
