The Nebraska Legislature’s Judiciary Committee is holding important listening sessions early next week on the killing of George Floyd and James Scurlock, and the community’s response. These unjustified deaths serve as a stark reminder of the multi-generational injustices and indignities faced by Black communities. These sessions are an important first step for the Legislature to hear the community. State senators make better policy when they listen to what the public shares about real experiences.
While the Judiciary Committee is holding listening sessions in-person, you can weigh in by sending your comments to Senator Steve Lathrop, chair of the Judiciary Committee, at slathrop@leg.ne.gov, and by emailing your own state senator. You can find your senator and their contact information here, and watch the sessions on live-stream.
