Join Us Today to #ThankAHungerHero

Note: This is a guest blog post from Economic Justice Fellows, Temi Onayemi and Claire Breen.

Today community members across the nation will be thanking Hunger Heroes serving school meals to kids even though schools are closed! We will be joining the national nonprofit, No Kid Hungry, and the rest of the United States in thanking our hunger heroes that have been providing food during such a challenging time.

Nebraska’s school nutrition, administrators, and cafeteria staff across the state have continued to work tirelessly as businesses, schools, and various other institutions were forced to close due to COVID-19. Thanks to their bravery and selflessness, families across the state can find comfort that they can still put food on the table.

Now, it is our turn to stand together and show our heroes how thankful we are for them.

Nebraska Appleseed is showing our thanks by getting faces like Grand Island’s Superintendent, Dr. Tawana Grover, Senator Megan Hunt, and the Nebraska Commissioner of Education, Dr. Matthew Blomstedt, to say thanks to their Hunger Hero.

It’s your turn!

We challenge you to #ThankAHungerHero and spread the word today by:

  • Recording a video of your own and tagging Nebraska Appleseed on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram
  • Sending a thank you letter or email to your Hunger Hero
  • Drawing a picture or encouraging your child to draw a picture and emailing to your Hunger Hero or sharing via social media and tagging Nebraska Appleseed
  • Doing anything else creative to show your thanks!
  • Share your thank you by using #ThankAHungerHero

It is especially important to stand strong and uplift one another in the midst of a pandemic. Our Hunger Heroes have shown us that we can all do our part to ensure that we make it through. Let’s do our part and thank them for their work.
