Join Nebraska community organizations for “We Count!” on Census Day
Ensuring Nebraska voices are heard and represented
Lincoln, NE — On April 1, 2020, Nebraska community organizations are celebrating Census Day by mobilizing communities across the state to get counted in the 2020 Census. While the COVID-19 pandemic is keeping community members home, the census is designed for people to respond on their own. That means you can take the 2020 Census right now in the comfort of your own home by visiting my2020census.gov.
Nebraska Appleseed’s Immigrants & Communities Organizing Manager Vanessa Martinez said:
“When everyone is counted, Nebraska’s communities get the funding and representation we need to help keep all Nebraskans safe and healthy. Food programs, health coverage, child care, and more all depend on getting an accurate census count. Help our communities by responding to the census today!”
Centro Hispano’s Executive Director Karina Perez said:
“We would love to see everyone in our community fill out their census. It has been a great start for our state. Let’s keep up that energy and tell your family, friends, neighbors and all those you know, “have you done your census?” Participate today this 2020 because you count, Columbus counts, and Nebraska counts. Happy census day!”
Unity in Action’s Executive Director Olga Guevera said:
“Our Siouxland community understands the importance of Census participation because funding for local services impacts us all directly. Everyone in our community counts regardless of their age, immigration, and socioeconomic status.”
Empowering Families Co-Founder Valeria Rodriguez said:
“During the last census in 2010, my family and I, immigrants from Mexico, had been living in Nebraska for 10 years. We were unaware of what the census was and did not participate. This time, we will not be erased. We will be counted because Scotts Bluff county is our home. By participating in the census, we are defining our community, demonstrating how big and diverse our nation is, and ensuring that our community has the representation and the resources needed. Let’s be counted!”
