Tell Congress Stop cuts to Nebraska kids and working families

Things are moving fast in Congress, and we’re asking you to take action today to protect important investments that help Nebraska’s children and hard-working families meet their needs and get ahead.

Just like your household budget reflects what you think is important to spend money on, our national budget shows what we as a country believe is important — our budget reflects our national values. At Appleseed, we believe investing in opportunity for all Nebraskans is the right thing to do for our families, communities, and economy.

But, this week, the House of Representatives unveiled a tax plan that will force drastic cuts to programs that help children, older adults, and hard-working families.  It’s a plan that hurts millions of Americans, with little-to-no benefit to middle-class families, while only helping the wealthiest people and large corporations. We don’t think that’s right.

Take Action!

Call your Congressman today, and urge them to vote “NO” on the House tax plan that will lead to huge cuts in investments that help everyone simply to give even more to the wealthiest Americans.

The House tax plan would hurt many vulnerable Nebraska children in families by forcing huge cuts over the next decade to:

  • Medicaid – which helps 1 in 8 Nebraska children, seniors, and people with disabilities get health coverage
  • Food assistance – including SNAP and school meals
  • Medicare – which provides coverage for health coverage for many older Nebraskans
  • Plus more cuts to Education, Social Security, and Housing assistance.

It also increases the federal deficit by $1.5 Trillion. This tax plan will slash investment in programs that help working Nebraska families escape poverty in order to give more to people who already have the most. Those aren’t Nebraska values.

Please call your Congressman today and urge them to vote “NO” on the House tax plan. Instead, they must come up with a plan that helps the majority of Nebraska families and strengthens work-support programs that keep our children, seniors, and hard-working families out of poverty.
