Film Screening and Community Conversation with the Director of 9500 Liberty, Panelists + Live Music!
The Unitarian Church Social Justice Committee (formerly Social Action) recommends this film as a part of our learning and building understanding for the Standing on the Side of Love campaign (www.standingonthesideoflove.org). The film 9500 Liberty tells the story of Prince William County, Virginia and its explosive battle over immigration. When elected officials adopt a law requiring police officers to question anyone they suspect to be an undocumented immigrant, the social and economic effect is widespread. 9500 Liberty provides a front row seat to the immigration debate taking place all over the country.
Followed by a panel discussion with the film’s directors; the Nebraska Hispanic Bar Association; the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF); David Weber, Professor of Immigration Law at Creighton Law School; Rev. Howard Dotson, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Omaha
Live Music from “The Immigrants” of Omaha
