Nebraska Appleseed Statement supporting Transitional Health Insurance Program Act
LB 1032 would create path to affordable health insurance for 77,000 uninsured Nebraskans
LINCOLN — Today, Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Rebecca Gould released the following statement in support of LB 1032, the Transitional Health Insurance Program Act. The bill, introduced by State Sen. John McCollister, will receive a hearing by the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee Wednesday afternoon.
“Everyone in Nebraska needs to be able to see a doctor when they get sick or injured, and LB 1032 creates a path to affordable health insurance that is long overdue for 77,000 Nebraskans that can’t currently afford coverage,” Gould said. “This bill is a unique solution that meets the specific needs of Nebraska and would allow our state to recoup more than $2 billion of our tax dollars that would strengthen our health care system and our workforce.
“We applaud Senator McCollister for his leadership on this issue,” Gould said, “and for collaborating with lawmakers in both parties to create a solution that not only will help hard-working people get affordable health coverage, but also support jobs, ensure the financial stability of health care providers, and help grow Nebraska’s economy. We urge the committee to advance this bill to the floor with its full support.”
Additionally on Wednesday, 27 Nebraska organizations publicly declared their support for LB 1032.
