Today is a very important moment to support a bill that affects young immigrant Nebraskans and their ability to contribute to their communities.
We’re asking you to contact members of the Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee and urge their support for LB 623.
LB 623 would allow young immigrant Nebraskans who qualify for DACA to apply for driver’s licenses. (DACA – Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – is a program of the Department of Homeland Security to provide a temporary work permits to qualified immigrants). Nebraska is the ONLY state that does not allow these young immigrants, who have legal permission to live and work in the U.S., to obtain driver’s licenses.
The Transportation Committee could meet as soon as Thursday morning to vote on whether or not to send the bill to the floor of the Legislature for debate by the entire body. So it’s important they hear from you today!
Contact these State Senators now. Urge them to vote “YES” on LB 623.

More than 200 supporters packed a hearing on the bill on March 3, where supporters testified for more than two hours about how this bill will help Nebraska. Young immigrants, together with members of the business, faith, public safety, education, and legal communities all urged the committee to pass the bill.
Tell the committee members to move LB 623 out of committee so there can be a vote to let these young Nebraskans drive to work and school and contribute their talents more fully to our communities.
Let them know Nebraskans’ support for a “Yes” vote on LB 623.
