ACTION ALERT:Tell Congress the Farm Bill must strengthen SNAP

This is an opportunity for you to remind your members of Congress that EVERYONE needs food – and that keeping our communities fed is non-negotiable.

The House Agriculture Committee recently advanced its version of the Farm Bill (the Farm, Food & National Security Act), and it is likely to go to the House floor for a vote soon. The House’s Farm Bill does nothing to restore food assistance to the 10,000 Nebraskans who have already lost their benefits since H.R.1 (or the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”) passed and continues the deep, structural cuts that risk some states ending SNAP altogether.

Instead of ignoring these harmful changes that are now reality for Nebraskans, we need a Farm Bill that:

  • Restores eligibility for our lawfully-present refugee and asylee neighbors who still need food support;
  • Ends the new and harmful work requirements for those experiencing homelessness, veterans, and young people aging out of foster care that were created by H.R.1;
  • Delays or ends new, harmful SNAP costs that states now have to pay or risk being forced to end SNAP; and
  • Includes the RESTORE Act, which would end Nebraska’s lifetime ban for people with certain drug related felony convictions.

Our members of Congress need to hear from people like us so that SNAP is restored and protected for the future.
