As we discussed last week, Nebraska and every state is facing devastating cuts to important programs beginning January 1, 2013. That is, unless Congress replaces these cuts with a different approach.
Recently we encouraged our Congressional delegation to replace these across-the-board cuts with a balanced approach to deficit reduction, one that would include significant new revenues.
We are not alone seeing this great need. Since last year, Strengthening America’s Values and Economy (SAVE) for All has been advocating a similar approach in order to address America’s short and long-term economic and budgetary problems. In addressing these issues, SAVE advocates for approaches that would protect low-income and vulnerable people, promote job creation to strengthen the economy, increase revenues from fair sources, and seek responsible savings by targeting wasteful spending in the Pentagon and in other areas that do not serve the public interest.
Recently SAVE wrote a letter to Congress asking our representatives to consider the principles above in making decisions about the budget and deficit. They are asking organizations to sign on to the letter if they support SAVE’s effort to protect vital services and restore economic stability. Follow the links for more information.
