The Purple Bus Lady comes to Nebraska…

That’s right. I said the Purple Bus Lady. She’s not an official super hero, but she has shown an extraordinary dedication to health care reform and all those who are struggling to access the health care they need. Her name is Kathie McClure and she really does drive a purple bus. Kathie is a mother first and foremost whose own adult children face challenges accessing affordable health care due to chronic health conditions. So, Kathie decided to start a non-profit (www.votehealthcare.org) and take to the road to talk to people about their health care stories, highlight the urgent need for health care reform, and inspire people to get engaged on the issue.

Kathie is on her way to Washington D.C. along with thousands of other Americans to rally for health care reform on June 25th. HCAN and SEIU are sponsoring a total of 19 Nebraskans who are also going to D.C. to talk with our Congressional delegation about their health care stories and the urgent need for reform. So, it was perfect timing to have the Purple Bus Lady travel to Nebraska.

We held a press conference with Kathie and several of the Nebraskans that are travelling to D.C. See & hear press coverage from KLKN TV and NET Radio.

We also held an energetic rally for health care with the Purple Bus in Omaha that afternoon. It was great to see so many turn out to support health care reform, share their stories, and write letters to our delegation which Kathie will be taking with her to D.C. There was more press coverage of that event on KPTM TV.

We were so grateful that Kathie could come to Nebraska and spend some time with us.

By the way, if like others you wonder, why purple? Because it is the perfect combination of red and blue and access to health care isn’t a “Red” issue or a “Blue” issue. It is an issue facing all of us. Let’s join together to make reform happen.
