Legislative Update

At the Capitol: All-Day Floor Debate Starts This Week

The Legislature begins all-day floor debate this week and will continue until they adjourn in June, with late-night sessions starting this week.

Now that hearings are done, and senator and committee priorities bills have been decided, click here for an update on what we’ll be fighting for – and against – during the next 40 days of session.

Last week’s highlights

Last week, we testified in front of the Judiciary Committee in support of LB581 (Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh), which would create pilot programs for doula services at a youth rehabilitation and treatment center and the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women. We also testified in support of LB391 (Sen. Jen Day), which would provide criminal and civil liability immunity for pregnancy outcomes; and LR20CA (Sen. Danielle Conrad), a constitutional amendment to protect the right of individual privacy. Finally, we submitted a comment to the Revenue Committee in support of LB747 (Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh), which would provide an income tax credit for renters.
