Let’s celebrate Nebraska After School Nutrition Heroes!

By Meyri Ibrahim, Food and Nutrition Access Intern

Kids need food to be healthy and do well in school. That’s why Nebraska Appleseed works to make sure kids get the food they need to thrive through child nutrition programs across the state.

This year, the Nebraska Student Nutrition Action Committee (SNAC), an Appleseed-led coalition of advocates, school nutrition staff, agency officials and others, is focusing on honoring the good work of after school nutrition staff who prepare and serve healthy and nutritious snacks and suppers to students throughout Nebraska!

After school programs provide food for thousands of children across Nebraska. The people that serve these meals are often overlooked and underappreciated.

During the week of February 6-10, join the Nebraska SNAC, NDE, and after-school program providers across the state in celebrating after-school nutrition staff for all they do for our students.

If your student participates in an after school program or if you know your school has a program, send an email, letter, picture or coloring sheet to your school and post on social media to show that you see and recognize the good work happening in these programs. Don’t forget to use #AfterSchoolNutritionHeroes and keep a lookout for others using the same hashtag!
