Over the past few weeks, I’ve received a lot of questions from folks wondering what they can do to improve food access in Nebraska. There are a lot of ways we can do this, but one big way is by making your voice heard in the Nebraska Legislature!
Appleseed’s food advocates are watching four bills in particular: LB108, LB117, LB121, and LB356. You can read more about the bills being heard tomorrow, February 17th, by clicking here. These bills all create opportunities to improve food security in our communities, and you can support each of them by submitting comments on the bill portal pages, or writing an email to the committees in charge of these bills. You can also always call your senator’s office to share why these bills matter to you!
If you want to stay up to date on our work in the legislature, I encourage you to sign up for our legislative updates from Appleseed’s State Policy Director, Katie, who will keep you updated on all the bills Appleseed is watching! You can subscribe to these emails by filling out your information and selecting the Legislative Updates checkbox at the bottom of the form.
We know how important food access is for our communities. I will continue to be in touch to make sure you have the most up to date information on any new changes you should know about. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with any questions you have by emailing mhamann@neappleseed.org!
