Last week, the House passed H.R. 6201, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, to address the economic uncertainty caused by the coronavirus. This legislation focused on supporting families as we all prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities across the state by including paid sick and family leave, expanding unemployment insurance, food assistance, increased Medicaid funding, and free COVID-19 testing.
Unfortunately, paid sick and family leave under the House’s version is estimated to only cover 20% of working Americans. We need to ensure the final bill the President signs includes extensive leave provisions with no exceptions.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act, however, is only the first step we need. Congress should continue to work towards adopting more policies to address this pandemic and protect the health, safety, and economic well-being of our communities across the state.
The Senate should act immediately to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Call your Senator today to tell them to include broader paid and sick leave provisions in this bill that would cover all Americans, and then pass this vital legislation.
Contact your Senators and urge them to continue to pass measures that will support and sustain families during this difficult time.
