Appleseed Statement on passage of LB 89
Legislature’s vote will strengthen Nebraska’s working families
LINCOLN — Today, Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Becky Gould issued the following statement in support of the Legislature’s vote to pass LB 89 on Final Reading Thursday morning.
“Passing LB 89 was a wise choice to help Nebraska’s working families meet their basic needs and encourage them to work hard to get ahead,” Gould said. “Raising the Aid to Dependent Children rate is a long-overdue step to fight poverty, keep families together and prevent children from entering the child welfare system.”
“We thank the State Senators who supported this bill, especially the leadership of the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Kathy Campbell, for their vote for strong, united families. We encourage Governor Ricketts to sign the bill into law to affirm the importance this change will have on keeping families together while encouraging hard work.”
