Appleseed praises Transportation Committee for advancing LB 623
Bill allows young immigrant Nebraskans to contribute more fully to their communities
LINCOLN — Today, Nebraska Appleseed Immigrants & Communities Director Darcy Tromanhauser issued the following statement on the Legislature’s Transportation and Telecommunications Committee vote to advance LB 623 to the floor.
“We want to thank the Committee for voting to recognize the value that young immigrants add to their communities by sending LB 623 to the floor of the Legislature,” Tromanhauser said. “LB 623 would benefit us all by allowing young Nebraskans to contribute their talents more fully to our state’s communities and economy.
“Nebraska is currently the only state in the country that does not allow these young immigrants to apply for driver’s licenses, and passing this bill would end that unfortunate distinction. The strong, statewide bipartisan support for this bill is exciting to see. We want to thank the senators who supported this bill in the Transportation Committee.”
