Nebraska Appleseed was honored when we were offered the opportunity several months ago to participate in a new art exhibit at the Sheldon Museum of Art on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
The “Marketplace of Community Values” is a unique opportunity for 12 local nonprofit organizations to partner with nationally acclaimed artists to create displays that help the community better understand the work we do.

Appleseed has been very fortunate to work with a pair of wonderfully talented artists who have helped breathe life into the concepts of Justice, Equality, and Community that guide our work.
We cannot thank enough Omaha artist Therman Statom and South Dakota artist Steve Tamayo, who designed and built our exhibit in the space Appleseed is sharing with the Indian Center. Special thanks also to the staff of the Sheldon Museum of Art – particularly Rita Hermann and Greg Nosan – for involving Appleseed in this project and for being a wonderful source of encouragement and creativity.
In our exhibit, you can see some of Appleseed’s symbols that represent equal justice and opportunity for all Nebraskans. We invite you to share your vision of what would make a stronger Nebraska by writing on the chalkboard apple displayed on one wall of the gallery. Take time to reflect on one of the benches under the fabricated tree that is the centerpiece of the symbolic community.
On another wall, you can view posters made by many Nebraska artists and graphic designers from past Appleseed poster shows encouraging civic participation and equal justice.
The “Marketplace of Community Values” exhibit runs through June 23. We invited you to visit the museum and get to know Appleseed in a new way through this fun, interactive experience.
