LINCOLN FOR FAIR HOUSING PLACED ON MAY 6 CITY BALLOT!
No one should be denied a home because of how they pay rent. But right now, landlords in Lincoln can refuse to rent to people who would pay for housing through disability benefits, social security, veteran benefits, or housing vouchers. It’s called source-of-income discrimination, and it hurts families, veterans, seniors, and people with disabilities.
That’s why Appleseed and our Lincoln For Fair Housing partners have been talking to our neighbors about a ballot initiative that will prohibit landlords and property managers from turning away tenants based solely on how they pay rent.
In March, the Lincoln City Council placed this ballot initiative onto Lincoln’s May 6, 2025 general election ballot!
Source-of-income protections work for everyone. While Lincoln faces an affordable housing crisis, source-of-income discrimination has been banned in 22 states and 128 cities and towns in the United States to help more folks access safe, affordable, and accessible housing. In those cities and states, the voucher failure rate has been cut in half.

preserve voter-approved paid sick leave
Last November, voters across Nebraska overwhelmingly passed Initiative 436, a statewide ballot initiative that gives all workers the ability to earn and use paid sick leave – without retaliation from their employers.
The Nebraska Legislature has voted to advance LB415 (Sen. Beau Ballard), which would remove paid sick leave protections from 140,000 hardworking Nebraskans – including people working at small businesses, seasonal and temporary agricultural workers, and workers under the age of 16. Additionally, LB415 exempts businesses with 10 or fewer employees from having to provide paid sick leave, and it removes important protections for workers who face retaliation from their employers for using paid sick leave.
Urgent: Sign petition to OPPOSE LB 415,
Sign this petition NOW to tell our lawmakers to honor the will of Nebraska voters and oppose LB 415’s attempt to undermine access to paid sick leave.
