You are appreciated!

Building a just, vibrant, and inclusive Nebraska can feel like a series of marathons. Some end with accomplishment and hope. Others drag on or end in disappointment. No matter the outcome, we always end each race taking the next step forward together.

As we prepare for the races ahead, we should reflect on what’s been accomplished, find moments of rest to gather our strength, and build ambition.

We’ve achieved milestone accomplishments together this year, and I want you to know that Appleseed has an overwhelming appreciation for YOU. Your commitment and determination to ensure justice and opportunity for all Nebraskans is awe inspiring.

This past year you and Appleseed crossed the finish line on so many impactful efforts! Together, we:

  • Passed historic increases in eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), child care subsidies, and heating assistance.
  • Halted the State’s two-tiered Medicaid expansion benefits system, ensuring 51,000 enrolled Nebraskans can access dental, vision, and over-the-counter prescriptions.
  • Strengthened tenant’s rights in legislative updates to the Landlord and Tenant Act and Mobile Home Landlord and Tenant Act.
  • Built momentum with meatpacking workers and allies for long-term change during the pandemic by creating substantial awareness of dangerous conditions while training 600+ statewide meatpacking employees in workers’ rights and safety.

Despite the obstacles we might face in the future, you’ve shown how determination and coming together create the change you want to see. We look forward to continuing this fight together as we start to look at the work ahead in 2022.

Thank you for being a part of our community.
