Take Action – March 5 Nebraska events on Dreamer deadline

Nebraska Dreamers traveled to D.C. this week to make one final plea for our members of Congress to pass the DREAM Act before the March 5 deadline to end DACA.

In the months since the President announced he would end DACA on March 5, Congress has failed to protect hard-working young Nebraskans, their families, and the communities who count on them.

Join local efforts to tell Congress “Stop playing games: Protect Immigrant Youth & Families Now.”  Our communities are strongest with the contributions of hard-working young Nebraskans, families with Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and refugee families.

Join one of these upcoming actions:

Lexington – “We All Belong” community gathering with Dreamers documentary screening. Sunday, March 4, 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. More info

Omaha – “Stop Playing Games” vigil, Memorial Park, 6005 Underwood Ave., Monday, March 5, 6:00 p.m. More info

Lincoln – “Stop Playing Games” vigil, Nebraska State Capitol, 14th and K Streets, Monday, March 5, 5:30 p.m. More info

Crete – Screening of “We Are Dreamers” documentary, telling the stories of young Nebraska Dreamers. Monday, March 5, 7:00 p.m., Doane University.

These statewide activities amplify a nationwide day of action to demand Congress stop its delays and pass legislation that protects Dreamers, refugees, and people with TPS.

One thing you can do today is call our U.S. Senators and tell them to support the “bipartisan DREAM Act of 2017,” which protects Dreamers and creates a way for them to become U.S. citizens.

Sen. Deb Fischer (202) 224-6551      Sen. Ben Sasse (202) 224-4224

By making a call, you can stand with the Nebraska Dreamers who went to D.C. this week to make one final ask that Nebraska’s members of Congress support a bill that protects families right away. The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision not to immediately hear a case rejecting the end of DACA does not change the urgency for Congress taking action on a permanent solution.

Nebraska Dreamers, refugees, TPS families, and our shared communities can’t wait any longer. Tell Congress to take action immediately by passing the Dream Act and protecting families Nebraska needs to help us build a better future together.
