Without employer-provided insurance, Meg can afford Marketplace coverage for important care

Note: We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of Nebraskans who wanted to tell us how the health insurance protections of the Affordable Care Act have improved their lives. This is one of those stories.

Meg’s story

Born and raised in Nebraska, I was raised by a single mom. I paid out of pocket for my healthcare for a long time, and while I didn’t immediately support the ACA, circumstances since its adoption have fully changed my stance.

I work at a childcare center in a small town and don’t make great money. Because I work for a small business, my employer isn’t able to provide healthcare coverage as a benefit.

I make approximately $16,000 per year in early childhood education. The price before credits, the premium of my current plan would be approximately $400 per month.  Thanks to the credits, I’m paying $66 a month. This is incredible!

Having anxiety and depression means I need certain prescription medications in order to live my life. Having affordable healthcare and prescription coverage means I can do that. I was also diagnosed with endometriosis and had a very large ovarian cyst a couple of years ago.

Without coverage from the ACA, I would not have been able to have the treatment (including continuing follow up) that I need.

When you’re done, call your U.S. Representative and tell them they must not vote to repeal the ACA with a replacement plan in place. Tell them how the ACA protections have helped you or someone you know.
