Appleseed Statement on vote to Override veto of LB 947

Vote allows Nebraska economy, communities to benefit from hard-working young Nebraskans

LINCOLN — Today, Nebraska Appleseed Executive Director Rebecca Gould issued the following statement on the Legislature’s vote to pass LB 947 over the veto of Governor Ricketts.

“State Senators made a wise choice for Nebraska today, voting in support of hard-working young Nebraskans who now will be able to contribute more fully to their home communities and our state,” Gould said. “From the beginning, this bill has been about opening the door of opportunity to our next generation of community and business leaders, which is why LB 947 had such strong, statewide community support.

“Passing LB 947 will allow Nebraska to gain so much from the future teachers, health care providers, accountants, and many other professions that are essential in every community. Our local economies will be stronger and our state’s future is brighter today because so many senators recognize the great value of these young people.”

This is such great news… Keeping America as the land of opportunity for those who “wash up” on her shores for generations upon generations of immigrants, especially continuing into the future, including in particular those under some form of situational/societal persecution. Manifold targeting by the governor of marginalized groups, hopefully he will learn, will not continue simply unabated in the state of Nebraska. Inclusion supersedes integration and that is how “we” should keep it.
