Welcome Freedom Thompson

WELCOME FREEDOM THOMPSON, HEALTH CARE COMMUNITY ORGANIZER!

Help us welcome Freedom Thompson (she/her/hers) to the Appleseed Team!

Freedom is our new Health Care Community Organizer, supporting our health care access team in building, maintaining, and coordinating authentic grassroots relationships that ensure Appleseed’s programmatic work is community-led and builds power locally.

Born and raised in Lincoln, Freedom’s continual passion for nature, food, arts, and science has fueled her expansion for growth and knowledge throughout her career – from completing her CNA certification to earning her Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts from Great Plains Culinary Institute. Freedom is also certified in Embodied Social Justice, as well as Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy.

Freedom’s passions are focused on integrative holistic health, and nutrition. In addition to serving as a freelance herbalist and holistic wellness coach, Freedom is the creator and developer of Roots to Rise, a multi-dimensional arts, humanities, and environmental studies program designed to empower holistic health and wellness, reinforcing a myriad of life and academic skills to ignite, uplift and decolonize – culturally responsive pedagogy within the Native American and Afro-Indigenous youth community. She also serves as the Board Treasure for Intertribal Spiritual Lodges, and as Program Coordinator for Nourishing the Plains, a cross organizational circle within Stand in for Nebraska.

Freedom’s extensive experience organizing and mobilizing community members will serve her well at Nebraska Appleseed:

“When you combine your passions, inspirations, and work among a team of fantastic humans for the greater good, you come to realize it’s not a job at all – it’s your passion, something you love. That’s the beauty in being a part of Appleseed.”

Welcome Freedom to the team at fthompson@neappleseed.org!
