Wide variety of Nebraska perspectives call for immigration laws with path to citizenship

Immigration Reform Press ConferenceLast week, more than 40 Nebraska organizations gathered at the Nebraska State Capitol to urge common-sense immigration laws that create a clear and inclusive path to citizenship for aspiring Americans. These 40 institutions represented a wide range of Nebraska perspectives, including faith, business, labor, immigrant, civic, civil rights, rural, children and families.

Appleseed was proud to be part of this group. Immigration is an important part of the social and economic fabric of our communities, and it adds to our nation’s vibrant and innovative culture.  We need a modern immigration system that reflects these beliefs. But somewhere along the way, we let our immigration laws fall out of date.

Congress returns from recess this week and is expected to introduce a new immigration bill.  Now is the time to call your representative and U.S. senators and tell them the law must keep families together, and that a clear and inclusive process for citizenship is good for Nebraska’s families, communities, economy and future.
