People really are clamoring for information about how to navigate the public benefits programs that are so central to the health and well being of their families. So, today, Nebraska Appleseed is continuing our long tradition of sharing information about rights in public benefits programs and (drumroll please), by releasing our “Know Your Rights” information in video form. This first video outlines people’s rights to appeals and mediation in public benefits programs. We believe that it will be particularly helpful to folks using the new on-line public benefits application system “ACCESS Nebraska”. We hope you enjoy it!

In addition to sharing backpacks and notebooks to prepare kids for the upcoming school year, the Center for People in Need gave folks a chance to learn about important resources available in the community, ranging from the programs offered through the Girl Scouts to, you guessed it, information on rights in public benefits programs. I was surprised by the positive reception Appleseed’s information received. Our “Appeals and Mediation” brochure practically flew out of my hands.
This is awesome. What a great idea.
