Welcome Robbie McEwen!

Robert McEwenA “welcome” probably isn’t completely accurate, since the Child Welfare System Accountability Program’s newest Staff Attorney has been with Appleseed for the past year and a half and has even blogged here.  Nonetheless, Appleseed welcomes Robbie McEwen!  Actually, “Staff Attorney” isn’t completely accurate yet either, since Robbie is currently completing his third and final year of law school and will take the bar exam this summer before officially becoming our Staff Attorney.  In the meantime, allow me to introduce you to our “senior law clerk,” Robbie McEwen…

Robbie grew up in Littleton, Colorado and attended Drake University for two years and then transferred after his sophomore year to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he played football for the Huskers for two years.  Robbie graduated from UNL with a degree in Political Science, earning academic honors as a student athlete.  Robbie will graduate from the UNL College of Law in May, where he has been dean of Delta Theta Pi, participated in the Student Bar Association, the Community Legal Education Project, and the civil clinic, and earned a pro bono and mediation certificate.  After his first year of law school, Robbie clerked at McGuire Woods in Pittsburgh.  A few months later in October of 2009, Robbie started at Nebraska Appleseed as a law clerk and hasn’t looked back since!

Outside of his legal work, Robbie can be found participating in a wide range of sports including baseball, snowboarding, golf, water skiing, wakeboarding, and cheering on the Huskers and Denver Broncos.  Appleseed is thrilled to have Robbie participate on the Appleseed summer sand volleyball team, which will greatly benefit from at least one actual athlete!  (Sorry, Appleseed colleagues, but you know it’s true.)

As part of the Child Welfare Team, Robbie will focus on developing and implementing legal and policy strategies to bring about positive policy change in the child welfare system.
