Drew Duncan (he/him/his) joined our team as the Development Associate! He will be helping build and strengthen relationships with Appleseed donors and supporters, and help plan our annual fundraising event, the Good Apple Awards. Drew is a board member of Out Nebraska and UNL Friends of Opera. He joins Appleseed with tremendous experience from his previous positions as a Development Coordinator for Nebraska Public Media and Executive Director of Abendmusik, a nonprofit concert series with a mission to bring meaningful musical experiences to Nebraska.
“In 2018, we brought the choral ensemble Conspirare to perform the emotional and powerful work, Considering Matthew Shepard, to the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The three-part musical journey focuses on the life and tragedy of Matthew Shepard. In our partnership, we included many LGBTQ+ groups throughout the state of Nebraska and provide a streamed panel discussion entitled “Confronting Hate, Considering Compassion,” discussing hate crimes and how media, government, and community can productively respond and prevent them. The events and performances showed the power of music and the arts in connection to social change and growth.” – Drew
In addition to Drew’s passion for theatre and arts, he is a former professional opera singer! He still enjoys singing with local groups and singing the national anthem for various events like the College World Series, Olympic Swim Trials, and UNO Hockey. We’re very ecstatic to have Drew join Appleseed! You can reach Drew at dduncan@neappleseed.org.
