Legislature adopts resolutions supporting DREAMers and refugees
Lawmakers recognize valuable contributions immigrants and refugees make to Nebraska
LINCOLN — Today, the Legislature voted to adopt Legislative Resolutions 26 and 27.
LR 26 stated the Legislature’s support for and appreciation of DREAMers – young immigrant Nebraskans who grew up here, attended local schools, and seek to contribute their talents to the state they call home. LR 27 proclaimed the Legislature appreciates the long-standing contributions of refugees to Nebraska and believes in continuing Nebraska’s proud history of refugee resettlement.
Nebraska Appleseed Immigrants & Communities Director Darcy Tromanhauser issued the following statement in response to the votes:
“We applaud the State Senators who voted to pass LR 26 and 27. These resolutions reflect Nebraska’s long and proud history of welcoming new neighbors and shows Nebraska’s appreciation for the great value hardworking immigrant and refugee families bring to local communities,” Tromanhauser said. “We now urge our federal lawmakers to support legislation to fix our outdated immigration laws, keep families together, create stability for local communities, and uphold our values of refugee resettlement.”
