Note: Each summer, Nebraska Appleseed is fortunate to work with a number of bright, talented law clerks and interns. This is one of a series of posts that feature Appleseed’s clerks and interns discussing their backgrounds and experiences.
Name: Macy McKendree
Position: Intern
Hometown: Lincoln (Graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School)
About Macy: “I went to UNO for two and a half years, and transferred to Lincoln a year ago. I’m doing undergraduate work on Political Science and Anthropology. I like to crochet, I’m doing a bunch of granny squares, and once I get a hundred or so (which is going to take forever) I’m going to make a blanket and give it to my grandmother.”
Why Appleseed?: “I like looking at policy, how culture affects policy, how it gets implemented, and how people follow [policies]. I also like advocacy, and because thats what they do here, I like all of their areas. For example, maternal health policies and how that impacts midwives, which aren’t allowed outside of hospitals. Thats a policy issue, and that changes culture. Maternal health is really interesting, so is immigration and healthcare. I’m working on the ACA, so I hope to gain a better understanding of that, and how it’s impacting Nebraskans.”
Future Plans: “I hope to go to grad school for anthropology, but I think I will go somewhere outside of Nebraska.”
