Appleseed welcomes communications director Magdalena Cazarez

Magdalena Cazarez, also known as Maggie, has been leading our communications work since joining Appleseed in April. From Omaha, Maggie is a proud alumna of UNL’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications. She’s passionate about reframing narratives and conversations through thoughtful and creative storytelling. She has experience in branding, marketing, graphic design, and digital communications.

“I’m excited to be back at Appleseed, the place that fueled my passion to work in the nonprofit social justice world,” says Maggie. “It’s a joy to be surrounded by caring and dedicated leaders who have the same passion and to have the opportunity to collaborate with community members across the state working toward creating positive impact.”

In 2015, Maggie interned for the Immigrants & Communities program and worked on the Faces of DACA/DAPA+, focusing on telling the stories of young immigrant Nebraskans and their families to encourage our elected officials in Washington D.C. to pass positive immigration laws.

Previously, Maggie was the Communications and Development Assistant for Immigrant Legal Center. She helped lead the organization through the final stages of an intensive, yet successful rebranding journey. She recently led the first phase of a memorable, collaborative art project with talented local artists and community organizations, with the purpose of honoring the positive attributes that our immigrant communities bring to our state and country.

In her spare time, Maggie enjoys traveling to new cities, yet always gravitates toward the mountains or the beach. Catch her exploring new parks and ice cream shops with her puppy Maya around Lincoln. Welcome to Appleseed, Maggie!
