Appleseed is proud to welcome Eleanor Dollear as Appleseed’s Weitz Fellow for 2016-17. Eleanor will work with our Economic Justice & Health Care Access programs.
The fellowship is supported by the Weitz Family Foundation of Omaha and places recent Carleton College graduates with non-profits in Lincoln and Omaha for one-year fellowships.
Eleanor is originally from Chicago and graduated from Carleton in March with a degree in Psychology.
Appleseed seemed a natural fit for Eleanor, who has an extensive background volunteering for organizations that work to help communities create positive change. She spent several summers volunteering with Amigos de las Americas, which connects high school and college students to experiences that have positive local impacts within new cultures. During her time with Amigos, Eleanor helped build a new library and kitchen for local schools in Matagalpa, Nicaragua and San Pedro, Paraguay.
Eleanor also interned for a term with Family Defense Center, which advocates justice for families in the child welfare system.
At Appleseed, Eleanor will be part of several campaigns to increase access to opportunity in Nebraska, including the Insure The Good Life campaign to help all Nebraskans afford quality health insurance. She also is excited to tackle issues that affect Nebraskans with low incomes and help more Nebraska schools understand how they can fight classroom hunger through Community Eligibility.
