Wage subsidy bill LB 368 a win-win for Nebraska businesses & employees

nebraska-state-capital1-150x150The great work ethic of Nebraska’s labor force is one of the most important drivers of our economy.  LB 368, introduced by Senator Sue Crawford, would create opportunities for Nebraska businesses to hire new employees and grow the state’s economy through wage subsidies.

“LB 368 creates a subsidized employment pilot program that creates new job opportunities for low-income Nebraskans and allows small businesses to expand and grow their businesses while minimizing risks involved in hiring new employees,” Senator Crawford said.

James Goddard, Director of the Economic Justice and Health Care Access programs at Nebraska Appleseed, issued the following statement on LB 368.

“Nebraskans work hard, and our businesses – especially small businesses – count on that hard work for success and economic growth,” Goddard said.  “At the same time, Nebraska’s low-income, working families need new opportunities to earn a family supporting wage.  LB 368 would use existing funds to give employers opportunities to bring on additional employees with time-limited wage subsidies. This would help our state’s businesses grow and also provide meaningful work experience to low-income Nebraskans in need of job training.  LB 368 is a win-win for business growth and job experience.”

The Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee held a hearing on LB 368 this morning.
