Nebraska is a state where we take care of our kids and want them to have a real opportunity to be productive, healthy, and engaged members of our community as adults.
To that end, Appleseed took to the Capitol on Thursday with members of Project Everlast and other partners to advocate for LB 216 – the Young Adult Voluntary Services and Support Act. This bill, introduced by Senator McGill, provides important transition services to young people as they move from the foster care system into adulthood.
In the morning, Appleseed’s Child Welfare Director Sarah Helvey joined Senator McGill, members of Project Everlast, and Mary Fraser Meints, Executive Director of Youth Emergency Services (YES), for a press conference in support of LB 216.

In the afternoon, Amy West, Appleseed’s Child Welfare Policy Coordinator, joined young people from Project Everlast in testifying in support of LB 216.

Thank you so much to members of Project Everlast for sharing your stories with the Committee and the public. And thank you to all the supporters of LB 216. Your voices are essential to create positive changes in our child welfare system and creating a brighter future for all Nebraska children.
