Join us in welcoming Sierra Salgado Pirigyi (she/her/hers) to the Appleseed team! As our new Communications Director, she manages our branding, marketing, media/public relations, and communications strategy. Originally from Northwest Iowa, Sierra has made Nebraska her home since 2009.
Previously, Sierra worked for nonprofits Project WISE, Project Interfaith, Urban Abbey, and Tri-Faith Initiative in various capacities, including community engagement, operations, programming, and communications. She earned her B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature with Minors in Mass Communication and Chicano/Latino Studies from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2014, and her M.A. in English–Rhetoric, Writing, and Digital Media Studies from Northern Arizona University in 2020.
“When I moved to Nebraska, I was welcomed with open arms. It is here that I’ve grown and thrived, both as a professional and a person. I want everyone to have such a positive experience in this state.
My greatest passion is building communities in which all Nebraskans can flourish. I’ve long admired Appleseed’s work and leadership throughout the state, and I feel so honored to now be a part of this team!”
In her free time, Sierra loves to read, write, garden, and cook. She also enjoys traveling and discovering new craft beer with her husband, Roger, and their rescue pit bull, Ladybug (Bug). Sierra, Roger, and Bug will be moving to Lincoln at the end of August and can’t wait to explore their new home. Please help us welcome Sierra to Appleseed!
